Quick Note: I am well aware that Gorillaz is actually just Damon Albarn, a bunch of random studio musicians, and Jamie Hewlett.
In any case, I’ve been a fan of Gorillaz since they’ve existed, and have seen the group change and evolve over their 16-year lifespan. I had no clue that the boundaries which define music could be so forgivingly fluid. This shit absolutely blew my mind as a child. Operating under the guise of animated members allowed the group to use a vast array of different sounds, genres, and guests artists. I didn’t know it at the time, but I had stumbled upon one of the most unique (mainstream) artists of the past several decades. …The first was OutKast’s Stankonia, in case anyone was wondering. The albums Gorillaz and Demon Days were the 2nd and 3rd albums I ever purchased.
Hoo-boy, has this been a long time coming.įor those who don’t know (and I don’t know why you would, quite honestly), Gorillaz is one of my favorite all-time musical acts.
